Try these 8 simple steps in our Tech Troubleshooting FAQ to solve most connection problems that occur from time to time with your computers and other peripherals.

Have you tried switching it off and on again? Are you sure its plugged in? This may sound like a line from the IT Crowd TV Show (that’s because it is) but it is also very good advice when dealing with tech trouble.

So lets get started:

  1. Is the device plugged in firmly and connected to a working power source?
  2. Is the device connected firmly to your computer via a working cable?
  3. Can you change either or both of the power cable and device connection cables to the computer or even try different power sockets or physical computer ports?
  4. Has the fuse gone in you power cable plug top?
  5. Did you reboot the computer and try again?
  6. Did you turn off the device and turn it back on again?
  7. Have you unplugged the device and then connected it again?
  8. Can you find an updated software download for your computer or device, or at least try and reinstall any existing software for them to enable you to try and get them working together again nicely?
  9. Finally have you tried throwing your device or computer against a wall and then repeatedly jumping up and down on the remains until they are merely fragments of their former selves?

(Although I really enjoyed the UK version of the IT Crowd, the USA Pilot of the show was just as good too – spot the difference with the script though!)
